Aerospace Research Engineer
This person will lead technical research programs involving spacecraft guidance, navigation and control systems. The candidate should have a strong background in control and spacecraft dynamics. Experience writing MATLAB, C++, and/or Java software is desirable and will be a substantial part of the job. This job includes proposal writing; published papers and proposal experience is a plus. A Masters degree in engineering is required and a PhD is preferred.
This job may be located in Albuquerque, NM, supporting the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) at Kirtland Air Force Base. AFRL Space Vehicles Directorate is using PSS software to support their spacecraft simulation testbed. Alternate location is Princeton, NJ. Please specify your location preference, or if you have none, when responding.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading various technical research efforts such as NASA and DoD SBIRs
- Extensive MATLAB, C and C++ software programming, ex. simulation models and control algorithms
- Writing research proposals
Requirements:
- Masters or PhD degree in engineering or scientific discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or physics preferred)
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Willing to learn new programming languages as needed
- US citizen
Aerospace Product Engineer
This engineer will manage our MATLAB toolboxes, the Spacecraft and Aircraft Control Toolboxes. Our toolboxes are sold worldwide and we have several international distributors. The latest addition to our toolboxes is a CubeSat module for university groups building CubeSats. This job includes managing releases of our toolboxes, providing technical support to our customers, and supporting marketing efforts. The candidate will review existing software, add new features, and perform testing. The candidate should have an aerospace degree or concentration with coursework in control and dynamics, and experience writing MATLAB software. There will be occasional travel to conferences. A Bachelor's degree is required and a Masters degree is desirable.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop new products features and demos in MATLAB with the support of the PSS staff
- Manage product release cycle including product testing and documentation
- Remain knowledgeable on all PSS products
- Interface directly with customers and distributors and provide technical support
- Represent PSS at conferences and exhibits
- Make marketing presentations
- Develop new marketing materials and strategies for PSS products
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or scientific discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or physics preferred); Masters and/or additional experience desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Experience using MATLAB
- US citizen or Permanent Resident
Electrical Engineer
This person will be responsible for designing and building the electrical systems for Vertical Axis and Portable Vertical Axis Wind Turbines. The engineer will also support other projects including the Optical Navigation System flight hardware.
Immediate tasks
- Design a 3-phase brushless permanent magnet axial flux Halbach generator.
- Design the switched generator controller.
- Design matrix converters and inverters.
- Ensure compliance with grid standards.
- Build an ultrasonic wind sensor.
Required background
- Brushless permanent magnet motor/generator deesign and control.
- High power systems.
- DSP programming.
- C/C++ programming.
- Analog circuit design.
Summer Interns
This person will work on technical research programs involving spacecraft guidance, navigation and control systems. The candidate should have a background in control and spacecraft dynamics. Experience writing MATLAB, C++, and/or Java software is desirable and will be a substantial part of the job.
This job is located in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting various technical research efforts on missile defense, spacecraft formation flying, launch vehicles and wind energy
- Extensive MATLAB, C and C++ software programming, ex. simulation models and control algorithms
- Writing memos and reports
Requirements:
- Working towards a degree in engineering or science
- Ability to work independently
- Willing to learn new programming languages as needed
- US citizen
