EV Kiosk

Many electric vehicles and plugin hybrids are becoming available. These include

Electric cars and plugin hybrids will soon be a common fixture on America's roads. Drivers of these vehicles will be looking for parking where they can recharge their vehicles. The Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 40 miles. The Hymotion conversion module gives the Prius a pure electric range of up to 30 miles. Having a charging facility available at parking locations will enable weekday commuters to recharge their vehicles while at work, thereby enabling 60 to 80-mile daily, round trip commutes.

The Princeton Satellite Systems EV Kiosk provides parking garage and lot owners with a way to address this market and generate new revenue. The EV Kiosk is a fully automated charging station for all models of electric and plugin hybrid cars. It provides 110-220 Volts and up to 30 Amps AC through a conventional plug. The power cord has a powered retraction mechanism. All vehicles in production and future, proposed designs can charge using these voltage and current levels. The EV Kiosk uses an integrated Smart Card and Credit Card reader to accept payment. The EV Kiosk is wall mounted and you need only make a single AC power connection to the box. An optional pedestal mount is available.

The EV Kiosk is Internet enabled so that all credit card processing is done over the Internet. The EV Kiosk has built-in wireless both for Internet Connectivity and for the garage operator to communicate with the Kiosk.

The EV Kiosk automatically stops delivering power, and charging the customer for power, if the plug is disconnected. It cannot be used to charge again until a credit card or smart card is inserted. This prevents power theft. The integrated processor runs the Mac OS X operating system, the most secure operating system in the world.

Typical revenue from recharging the Chevy Volt would be equivalent to the cost of a gallon of gasoline, or $2.50 per charge. The rate can be set by the garage owner over the wireless connection. Charging prices can be set to be constant or vary with the day and time of day. The EV Kiosk can be set to just charge for the power or for the power and parking time thus providing a solution for parking garages and lots.
