In Version 8.0 the toolbox now includes Imaging, Power and CubeSat modules.
Some of the new features in v8 are:
The vehicles take off horizontally and land horizontally. This is a vehicle that uses a first stage with jet fueled turbofans which switch to hydrogen fueled ramjets above Mach 1.5. Separation occurs at Mach 5.5. The upper stage uses a single RD-60 engine. Both vehicles are fully reusable.
There is great interest in using cameras onboard satellites for navigation. The new imaging module allows you to apply a variety of imaging processing techniques to this problem such as corner and edge detection.
Corner detection using CornerDetector.m. The image is for a lens calibration pattern. The corner detector uses derivative information to find areas containing corners.
Edge enhancement using GaussianDerivative.m. This is a step in pattern recognition.
Planetary chord sizes for the Messenger mission. This plot is from an analysis of an optical navigation system that uses measurements of angle between planet centers and stars. The entire navigation system is part of v8.0.
One of the exciting areas of launch vehicle analysis is the use of a horizontal takeoff and landing aircraft first stage. This stage could be powered by a combination of turbofans and ramjets. This plot shows typical performance of a mixed flow turbofan which could be used up to Mach 2 in such a launch vehicle.
Thrust vs Mach number and altitude for a mixed flow turbofan. h is altitude. M0 is mach number at the inlet. F is thrust. These performance charts are used for simulations of aircraft with turbofan engines. Mixed flow means that the fan flow and core engine flow are mixed at the nozzle.
